Public club together to make romantic wish come true

Two wedding boxes loaded with an assortment of carefully chosen wedding decorations are now in use at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby

Ward sister Julieann Woollas made a wish for the boxes to be created to be used when couples get married at short notice in hospital.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, the Health Tree Foundation, launched a romantic appeal in the run up to Valentine’s Day asking for the public to make donations towards the boxes.

Sister Woollas said: “As the ceremonies are sometimes quite spontaneous there is not always time to get all the supplies needed to create the right environment.”

A variety of contributions from the community managed to exceed the £400 fundraising target within a week.

Donations included a generous £200 given by The Wortley House Hotel in Scunthorpe.

Sister Woollas and her team selected the decorations, which are now ready to use at both hospitals.

Fundraising coordinator Alice Weaver said: “We are so grateful for the generosity of the public who got behind this appeal. The items inside the wedding boxes will make such a difference to those people who have to spend their special day in hospital.”
