Hospital staff pull on their walking boots for intensive care unit

Staff at Scunthorpe General Hospital will be clocking up the miles in a charity walk on the August bank holiday weekend.

The plan is to walk 50 miles between all three hospitals of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) across two days.

Starting at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby the team will walk to Scunthorpe General Hospital on Saturday August 27 and on Sunday August 28 they will walk from Scunthorpe hospital to Goole hospital.

The event is being organised by Dr Sahar Biuk who wanted to give something back to the hospital.

Dr Biuk said: “I have worked with NLaG for almost two years now and have settled in to the department and hospital nicely.

“Everyone here is so lovely and welcoming, and they all work very hard to look after the patients.

“I wanted to do something that ties the three hospitals together as we are one Trust and this does that perfectly.

“I’m hoping we can raise a large amount for the intensive care unit (ITU) at Scunthorpe General Hospital to purchase some invaluable equipment that will greatly improve the care we provide for our patients.”

Staff nurse Jaime Hyde-Wyatt said: “The more equipment there is on ITU the better, the money raised will go such a long way in helping patients and staff.”

All the doctors and nurses taking part will wear scrubs or their uniform during the weekend walk.
