Virtual hospital raises real-life funds

The gaming world met reality as the popular Theme Hospital computer game came alive at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

The world watched as the computer game where players design and operate their own hospital was played on a big screen in the entrance of the hospital and streamed online to fundraise for the hospital charity, The Health Tree Foundation.

Kris Weavill, system administrator at the Trust who organised the day and took part, said: “For the first go at this we’re delighted it went so well. The game kept us on our toes but it’s only a glimpse of what great things hospital staff do on a daily basis.”

“We’re definitely going to give it another go in the future and try to raise more money for The Health Tree Foundation.”

Kris teamed up with his friend Max Stringer, a tutor at Grimsby Institute, to make the fundraising event happen and as they played the donations for The Health Tree Foundation came in. Viewers from as far as Canada and America donated as well as more local supporters bringing the donations to over £135 while their efforts were streamed globally via YouTube.
