Booming success for charity of the year baby unit

Insurance company staff have raised more than a thousand pounds for babies in intensive care.

NMJ Insurance Scunthorpe branch also known as Barry Fenton Insurance selected the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Scunthorpe General Hospital as its charity of the year for 2015.

Personal lines advisor Hayley Burkill selected NICU as the charity of the year as her daughter was born three months premature in 2011 and was cared for by the staff at NICU for three months.

She said: “I chose the charity because of everything they did for my daughter, Sofia, when she was born. I just wanted to be able to give something back and say a big thank you.”

The team raised £536.50 for the NICU through raffles, craft stalls and one member was sponsored to give up chocolate for a month.

NMJ Insurance matched the cash the team raised, bringing the total donation to the NICU to £1,073.

Ward Sister Sarah Judd said: “We are so grateful for donations like this to the NICU. The money goes a long way to supporting the babies and their families.”

The NICU is always in need of more donations, if you can spare a few pounds to help the unit please donate on The Health Tree Foundation’s Just Giving page, https://www.justgiving.com/nlagcharitablefunds  or contact The Health Tree Foundation hello@healthtreefoundation.org.uk
