Swimming success for cancer care thanks to brave maternity team

Thirty members of staff from the maternity ward at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital raised a staggering £2481.70 for the Pink Rose Suite after plunging into the sea on New Year’s Day.

The team went splashing into the sea at Brighton Slipway, Cleethorpes, in an array of fancy dress costumes, with the likes of Santa Claus and sailors braving the freezing temperatures.

The fundraisers had support from P&L interiors, Cleethorpes which collected money for the cause by promoting the dip in their shop.

Swimmers were also grateful for the warm environment and free drinks kindly provided by local Cleethorpes bar Willy’s on the day of the dip.

Organiser and midwife Helen Jacques said: “I can’t thank everyone enough. It exceeded all my expectations.”

Advanced nurse practitioner Helen Lindley said: “The donation will go a long way as we are always looking to update our equipment, especially within radiology.”

Helen Jaques added: “We plan to do it again next year with more people.”
