Lions help children to stand tall

A fun-filled fundraiser is helping children to stand tall thanks to the purchase of a new piece of equipment.

The Humberston North Sea Lions bought the specialist equipment for children who attend the Child Development Centre at Grimsby hospital.

The big-hearted money spinners have already donated £2,400 this year for a specialist chair for the centre but decided they wanted to do more.

So thanks to the proceeds from their annual It’s a Knockout competition they have donated a further £1,000 which is being used to buy a specific piece of equipment that assists children to stand.

Senior paediatric occupational therapist Louise Horn, who works at the centre, said: “The stander is key to helping children who struggle with their posture to stand up. Standing is key to helping the body develop at a young age and it avoids any complications later on. Standing is also essential for the digestive system and the heart too.”

Lion Tim Donovan said: “We are really impressed with the two pieces of kit we have purchased. This is our second visit to the centre and we are really pleased to be able to help.”
