Flag flying high thanks to donation

The Union Jack flag will fly high again at Scunthorpe hospital thanks to a kind donation.

The League of Friends have purchased a brand new flag for the hospital to replace the existing one.

The flag, which is at the Cliff Gardens side of the hospital, will be flying permanently but will be lowered to half-mast on Remembrance Day and upon the death of an employee.

Harold Edwards, treasurer from the League of Friends said: “Many of us in the league have lost loved ones in combat and feel it’s important to remember those who have passed away. It was sad that on these special days the flag was not looking its best.”

The new flag is made of military issue fabric and has a special anti-fray netting.

It was Anne Vause-Brown, member of the league for 20 years, who came up with the idea to purchase a new flag. She said: “Our members work really hard to raise money to benefit the hospital and this is just one of the many ways we can help where NHS budgets can’t stretch to.”

Richard Crookes, team leader in maintenance, accepted the flag on behalf of the hospital. He said: “We are very grateful to the league for this generous donation. It will be wonderful to see the flag flying proudly again.”

Our fantastic donors help us to help…
