Consultant Completes Triathalon to Support Cancer Group

Fundraiser and consultant, Martin Gough finished the Brigg Triathlon in a fantastic time of 1:28:2.

Mr Gough, one of our Upper GI consultants recently completed a triathalon in Brigg to raise funds for the trust. Half of the total amount raised will go to a National charity and the other half towards the trust's Upper GI Specialist Nursing team who run support meetings every 2-3 months in Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

Mr Gough said: “Oesophageal cancer is one of the lesser known and lesser funded cancers and I want to raise awareness and fundraise for our support groups. These groups really help patients and their families at a really difficult time. They are only funded by charity and the money is running out. If we raise our target we can keep it going for at least another year.”

The support group, which is based in Grimsby, is for both patients and relatives. It provides emotional support at a very difficult time as well as financial advice. It gives people the opportunity to meet others who have already been through cancer and share experiences

The team also hold weekly drop in sessions which offer emotional, practical and social support to patients and their families following new or previous diagnosis of Oesophageal, stomach, pancreatic and Unknown primary cancers.

So far Mr gough has raised £1,713 and you can still help him reach his target of £2,500 by donating here.
