Inspirational cancer patient says thank you to hospital for saving his life
Goxhill resident Steven Cook has donated £700 to Scunthorpe General Hospital as a thank you for saving his life.
Back in November 2016 Steven began to feel unwell and decided to visit his GP who ran tests for a viral infection but the results were inconclusive.
In January 2017 he went back to his GP who sent him straight to A&E at Scunthorpe hospital where he was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Twenty four hours and a seven-hour operation later Steven had his cancerous bowel removed. This was followed by a number of other surgical procedures. Then on January 10 2017 he was diagnosed with cancer of the liver and unfortunately told that this was inoperable.
Steven is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment on ward 18 which is helping to reduce the spread of infected cells.
Steven and his partner Jane Arnott wanted to say thank you to the hospital, not just for saving his life, but now providing treatment to allow him to live as comfortably as possible. So, they decided to hold a ‘summer brunch party’.
Steven said “I want to say thank you to the hospital for saving my life and for the care I have received, and am still receiving from them. I cannot thank everyone enough for the outstanding care and support they have given me and Jane. I am so grateful to the hospital and the staff, now I just want to make the most of every day.”
The brunch raised £500, and Steven topped it up to £700. The money will be divided evenly between ward 18 and Scunthorpe General Hospital funds.
