Hospital charity appeal boosted by staff from local bank

Staff at a local bank popped the kettle on and made a brew to raise money for the maternity bereavement suite appeal at Scunthorpe hospital.

The fundraisers from Scunthorpe’s Yorkshire Bank raised more than £1,000 when they hosted a coffee morning and also sold butterfly bereavement pin badges.

The appeal is being run by the hospital’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), and aims to provide a special bereavement suite for families who lose a baby.

Yorkshire Bank branch manager Karen Chapman contacted the charity after one of her colleagues sadly lost her baby. She said: “We all saw first-hand the impact of losing a baby has on the whole family. We wanted to help to raise money for the suite as we know it will make a difference for other people who face a tragic loss.”

Karen added: “Not only would I like to praise the staff for their participation but I would also like to thank our customers for their kind donations.”

With this latest donation the maternity bereavement suite appeal has reached £110,000.

HTF community champion Hayley Thompson said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and customers at Yorkshire Bank for their support and generosity.

“It is thanks to the local community getting involved that we are one step closer to our £150,000 appeal target.”
