Football supporters club raise more than £3,000 for local charity

The Winterton Iron supporters club raised more than £3,000 last year to help an appeal at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The club is made up of keen Scunthorpe United football supporters who raise money every year for different charities. In 2018 they chose The Health Tree Foundation, which is the official charity for Scunthorpe hospital.

The money will go towards the maternity bereavement suite appeal and was raised from a variety of events including a music tribute night last November.

Club treasurer Doug Parker said: “We picked the Health Tree Foundation for our charity of the year as a few of our members have sadly suffered the loss of a baby.

“We decided we wanted to help our local hospital and such a worthwhile cause which will help make a difference for local families. We would like to thank all our supporters and members for making 2018 a huge success.”

A donation of £500 was also made by Harsco to boost the clubs donations.

HTF community champion Hayley Thompson said: “I would like to thank the club for choosing us as their charity of the year, and for raising such a magnificent amount of money.”
