Charity donates more than £14,000 to Scunthorpe hospital

A charity has donated more than £14,000 to buy equipment for various wards at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The League of Friends, which was founded in 1948 and celebrates its 70th birthday alongside the NHS this year, has raised thousands of pounds for local patients since its inception.

This latest donation helped to purchase the following during 2017:

·         A camp bed for dads staying on the central delivery suite

·         A machine for the intensive care unit which helps clear airways

·         Four monitors to measure pulse oximetry, blood pressure and temperature

·         A hoist

·         An Accuvein device which detects veins

·         Kitchen equipment for the maternity ward.

League chairman Granville Staves said: “The League has worked tirelessly over the years to support patients coming through the doors of Scunthorpe hospital. Our members are always honoured to be able to visit those wards where we have helped buy equipment.

“Our whole aim is to help make patients’ stay in hospital more comfortable. We will continue to support wards and departments through the hospital’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation.”

HTF community champion Hayley Thompson said: “If you would like further information about the League of Friends and how you can get involved, please visit their website www.sghlof.org or email: enquiries@sghlof.org.”
