Head shave raises more than £1,000 for breast cancer patients

It was a case of hair today, gone tomorrow for a Scunthorpe fundraiser when she lost her locks to the clippers in aid of charity.

Christine Readhead, who owns Scunthorpe’s Body Bliss beauty salon, shaved her hair off in aid of breast cancer patients at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

She decided to raise money for the hospital’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation (HTF) after being diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2017.

The fundraising event was held at Hull’s Inglemire Club where Christine played in her local darts country championship. Having her head shaved raised £1,129 for the charity.

Christine said: “Unfortunately you cannot control cancer but I wanted to control when I lost my hair. I have been overwhelmed by the support I received and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated.

“I want to say a special thank you to the nurses for all of their support. Nothing is ever too much trouble.”

Specialist breast cancer nurse Maxine Woollin said: “We cannot thank Christine enough for all her help and fundraising efforts for breast cancer care at Scunthorpe hospital.”
