Quiz night raises more than £400 to help local charities

Fundraisers put their brain power to the test when they took part in a money-spinning quiz night.

Members of Brigg’s Inner Wheel Club raised an amazing £414 for a number of charities in North Lincolnshire, including Scunthorpe hospital’s Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal.

The quiz, which attracted more than 100 fundraisers, was held at Scunthorpe’s Heslam Park Rugby club. The money raised will be split between Scunthorpe hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support, Magic Moments and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

President of the Inner Wheel Club Suzanne Griffiths topped up the donation of £130.50 from the evening to her charity of choice The Health Tree Foundation’s appeal, making the grand total given to the Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal £550.

The topped up funds were raised last July from a summer quiz sheet which Suzanne sold, and also the kind donations which she has received form family and friends who heard about her charity of choice.

This appeal is close to her heart and Suzanne wanted to help make a difference to the community of Scunthorpe and the local area.

The Inner Wheel is one of the largest woman’s service organisations in the world, with the Brigg club opening their doors nine years ago. The ladies organisation work together giving humanitarian aid locally, nationally and internationally.

Suzanne said: “When a neighbour told me about the maternity bereavement suite appeal at Scunthorpe hospital I knew I wanted to help. As a retired teacher, I wanted to choose a charity that helped parents and involved children. I know how heart breaking it is to not have a child, as I was unable to have children, so helping parents have a homely environment at a difficult time is essential.”

The Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal needs to raise £150,000 to create the facility for bereaved parents and families. It will be located on the central delivery suite at Scunthorpe hospital.

Central delivery suite manager Jane Stoney said: “We are overwhelmed with the kind hearted donation which we have received from the Inner Wheel. It will help so much awards the appeal.”

If you would like more information about the appeal please contact: Hayley.thompson3@nhs.net  or call her on 03033 305672.

The Inner Wheel Club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at Elshem Golf Club.
