Academy IT Manager to support Intensive care baby’s

A staff member from St Lawrence Academy, Doncaster Road Scunthorpe has kindly donated wooden Christmas Reindeers to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Academy staff member Garry Drinkall, whose wife Charlotte Drinkall works as a staff nurse on the unit, and knows all too well the importance of the ward.

Garry and Charlotte Drinkall wanted to do something different for the tree this year.  With the help of the Academy’s laser cutting machine and Garry’s reindeer design they were able to create wooden reindeer’s decorations to be scribed with all baby’s names that have stayed in NICU throughout the year. 

Reindeer creator Garry Drinkall said: “We wanted to help create something more visual so that people who visit the unit are aware of how many babies are treated and cared for throughout a year.

“My wife Charlotte and myself thought it would be a great idea to create the Christmas reindeer decorations with the schools specialist equipment and donate them to the unit, so that parents whose babies may have to use NICU can make a small donation to have their names scribed onto the reindeers and placed on a Christmas tree throughout the Christmas period”.

NICU ward manager Sarah Judd said: “We are so grateful for all the time that Garry has spent with the Academy’s equipment creating these wonderful gifts for our babies on the ward, and would like to thank all involved”.
