Supermarket gets behind a local appeal

Local supermarket Tesco Extra has pledged support for the Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The Scunthorpe superstore is planning a number of fundraising events this year to help boost the coffers of the £150,000 appeal which has been launched by the hospital’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation (HTF).

Money raised will be used to create the new bereavement area which will be located on the central delivery unit. It will provide a quiet place for woman and their families who have experienced a stillborn or suffered a pregnancy loss.

Staff at the store will raise money through its ‘Scunthorpe in the community’ project which helps support local community initiatives.

Senior manager Craig Nicholls said: "It's with great pleasure that Tesco Extra Scunthorpe is able to support such a worthy cause as the Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal. It gives us an ideal opportunity to increase our involvement in our local community.”

HTF community champion for Scunthorpe Hayley Thompson said: “It is fantastic to have Tesco Extra supporting this appeal. We have some fantastic ideas lined up with the help of the team at the Scunthorpe store.

“We will be having a stand in store on Saturday March 25 along with the Rotary Club to raise awareness of our appeal.”

Hayley added “If you would like to help support the £150,000 appeal or host a fundraising event we would love to hear from you.”
